I honestly think that that's incredibly lazy. The characters overall weren't that good of role models, the only main role model being Paul. It's true to may parents, sometimes putting one child over another, not always on purpose. Another thing doe well in this book is how his parents are represented. I do have to admit that his emotional outbursts caused by his stress are god additions to his character, truly showing how misunderstood and sometimes ignored children an be. Don't get me wrong, flaws and problems are things that make a character great, but here is a balance. Paul's character is plain and once again, boring. If its done correctly, it can make a relatable and beautiful story, but that's not the case with this book. The overall story, of the underdog rising up and becoming courageous and strong, is overused. The word "boring" brings me back to on of my original points. It reminds me of the essays I would write in 3rd and 4th grade. The word "then" is overused, and when their is dialogue, basically the only word being used is "said." This can get very repetitive and boring. I understand that it's supposed to be in the perspective of a child, and that its supposed to be him thinking/talking, but its almost too accurate. The book follows a boy by the name of Paul, and his struggles in a new environment, with new people, and a new school, Not only is this a very overused story, but the way it's written (like a diary with different entries for different dates) leaves much to be desired. Although there clearly is a coherent story, and things are (mostly) resolved at the end, it's just a bit underwhelming. I think that this is the kind of book that people who prefer more juvenile fiction. Which Side of History?
